Trip to Casa Grande, Arizona

We enjoyed the five hour drive from Borrego Springs, CA to Casa Grande, AZ with many interesting sites to see along the way.

El Centro, CA, is the largest city in the US which lies entirely below sea level.

All American Canal
The All-American Canal
The All-American Canal is the largest irrigation canal in the world stretching 130 km. The entire canal is lined in concrete.  It conveys water from the Colorado River into the Imperial Valley and to nine cities and is the Imperial Valley's only water source.  The Canal runs parallel to the Mexico / California border for several miles. With over 500 people having drowned in the canal since 1997, it has been called "the Most Dangerous Body of Water in the US".

Along the I-8 running parallel to the Mexico border you can see the border fence erected to try and prevent illegal immigrants from entering the US.  The generators are used to power the lights stands .  Also visible along the drive are many border patrol agents.

The nations largest 'in-land' sand dunes known as the Imperial or Algodones Dunes stretch along this area and is a playground for ATV enthusiasts

We arrived at the house in Casa Grande later on Wednesday, so not enough time to get to the Oiler game in Phoenix. But our wonderful neigbors Jeff and Deb invited us over to watch the game. The motorhome is stored for a few days, while we enjoy the house and reconnect with friends here.

The recent freezing temperatures did quite a bit of damage to trees and shrubbery but hopefully most of it will come back with the warm weather approaching.
